Gnocchi do pyaza Recipe

Few days back while having paneer do pyaza, I somehow got an idea to mix do pyaaza with Gnocchi (weird, right?). Making Potato Gnocchi at home was easy and it represents my love for Potatoes 🙂  Do pyaza is a preparation which uses onion a lot and I figured that this dish might not be that bad as onion and potato go well together. we often make potato curry and eat it with naan or Kulche which are made of refined flour. So,  was it good ? It was a bit different and am happy that it wasn’t disappointing. Will I make it again ? I guess, yes but with more of tomato and onion and less of spices. So friends, in case you would want to try this unique combo of Indian and Italian, let me Present to you, Gnocchi do pyaza.

I referred to a youtube video for homemade potato gnocchi recipe. I made it using refined flour and mashed potatoes (no egg). Down below is the video :

Once my dough was ready, I used the fork as shown in the video to give the desired shape to gnocchi as below.

To make Do Pyaaza

Ingredients

Dried Red chilli 5 (as per your taste)

Three medium sized Tomatoes

Two medium sized Onion

I chopped small sized onion.

6 cloves of Garlic

Coriander Powder 1 tsp.

Cumin Powder 2 tsp.

Coriander leaves for garnishing (optional)

Red chili powder 1/2 tsp.

Black pepper powder 1/2 tsp.

Oil of your choice or Ghee (I used Rice bran)

salt to taste.

Turmeric powder 1/2 tsp.

1 Bay leaf.

I avoided ginger and garam masala in this preparation, you may use it if you wish.

Instructions 

step 1 : Boil onion, garlic, dried red chilli and tomatoes till the skin of tomato comes out easily on peeling.

step 2 : Now grind them together to make a paste.

step 3 : In a pan, heat oil, add bay leaf, once it turns brownish black, remove carefully. Now add the chopped onions, fry till golden brown.

step 4: Next, add the paste we prepared earlier and salt, turmeric powder, chilli powder to it. Sauté it for 2 mins. and then add rest of the spices. Cook the entire mix for few minutes till it appears brownish and oil separates.

step 5 : Add gnocchi to it and cook for another 2 minutes followed by  garnishing with chopped coriander leaves. Serve it hot.

Winters bring out the Laziest version of me and one fine winter eve, I was craving for something delicious to eat. Of course I didn’t want to get up and cook something but I had to. And so while I was there standing wondering what could Possibly be the quickest, simplest and easiest food to try that eve, I came up with this list of laziest Food recipes for winters and I think these are apt for all the Lazy bones like me out there.

Making The Best of Frozen Food.

I had Mc cain Burger Patty lying in Refrigerator and so, yeah, I used the Patty to treat myself with a Burger. If you have bread, you can use the same for sandwich or eat it as you would eat Paranthe and kebab. Little tip : Sauce it up!

Additionally you could use the Mc Cain Chilli Garlic Potato to make a Indo-Chinese dish named Chili Potato. Recipe Here. For Gravy, alternatively you could use the Pre made Manchurian mix easily available in stores or online.

 

Pizza using readymade Pizza crust or Dough

How hard can this be? Search through Kitchen and bring together a mouth watering topping with lots of cheese to give yourself the very best and special Pizza. You are worth it!!!! 😉

..And the winner is Tea.

Tea, a common thing from everyday life turns into a simple pleasure early morning or whenever one might need it. So does coffee, I know you said that! Well my friends, if you ask me I would always prefer tea over Coffee and for me… the Winner will always be tea, here’s why-

Tea is a common drink in Indian household and in many (not all) homes, morning starts with tea. what makes tea preferable over coffee ? First and most important thing is TEA LOWERS CORTISOL (STRESS HORMONE) LEVEL. Morning is the time, when cortisol which is a stress hormone is maximum in our body and cortisol does what it does the best, gives us stress.Related image Tea especially black tea, chamomile tea, Green tea have incredible power to lower the cortisols and hence, stress. So before you start a day, grab a cup of Tea.

Coffee on the other hand, increases level of cortisol. Better not to have it early morning.

 

I have always liked the taste of tea, in fact, I am a bit addicted to it. My morning always has to start with a cup of tea. Did you know, India is one of the largest tea producers in the world, with over 70% of the tea being consumed within India itself. Read here the history of tea in India

coffee reduces bone density, on the other hand, tea increases bone density and reduces bone loss. Now things that you must know about bone loss are that women are more likely to have this problem. Bone loss are non-curable. It is very common in India(about 10 million cases per year) .

 

 

Tea Reduces the risk of stroke and heart diseases. Tea, prevents blood vessels from hardening. Hardening of arteries is known as atherosclerosis, you might have heard of this term before. You can read about it here to know more.

Consumption of green tea, lowers the risk of age related memory loss. 

Tea has less caffeine than coffee.

These were the benefits of tea over coffee. If you enjoy coffee, it would be wise to switch to Decaf and lower the amount of consumption of coffee in a day.

I was mainly concerned about stress and it is a common problem. It is a good thing that we have a natural solution to this problem. Other than tea, Dark chocolate, oats, salmon and olive oil lowers cortisol naturally. So now that we know why tea is a winner, here are the types of tea, to enjoy tea at utmost.

Black Tea

Black leaves.

Health benefits : Reduces stress, lowers bad cholesterol, neutralises free radicals, boosts immune system.

Green Tea

Non oxidised tea.

Health benefits : Burns fats, reduces stress, contains antioxidants.

White Tea

Made by plucking young tea leaves. Once plucked, leaves wither and dry. white tea is one of the expensive tea.

Health benefits : Anti-Carcinogenic, anti-ageing, increases insulin and reduce plasma glucose level.

Tisane

Tisane has no tea leaves. It is made with flower or fruits such as Lemongrass and mint, lavender or chamomile, hibiscus tea etc. ( Hibiscus tea recipe )

Health benefits : Hibiscus tea lowers blood pressure. These tea varieties help in freeing body from free radicals, lowers stress and premature ageing.

Partly oxidised, color may be green to black.

Yam Balls in pear & tomato Sauce Recipe

Hi guys,

It’s been a while and I have been wanting to share Yam balls in pear & tomato Sauce recipe with you since more than a week now and I just couldn’t. Thing is, my internet is down since few days due to Monsoon and I have all posts pending in which Autumn/fall style tips are on top of my list. I will try my best to post it before you come face to face with fall, I promise.

And wish my Indian readers a very Happy belated Janmashtami. Hope you enjoyed. I had a great time celebrating it too and made some special dishes for Gopalji which included corn kheer and bread pudding. I am excited about how corn kheer tasted and I so want to share the recipe with you but alas I will have to wait till I make it again.

Coming to our recipe, adding Pears made it interesting, I guess. There are many things that can be made with pears like poached saffron pear,smoothies or pear pie, tarte etc. I decided to rather make a savoury dish with pears. This is a must try recipe since it has all the health benefits of yam, pear and tomato. They are very rich is Vitamins and minerals of which most notables are- Vit. C, A, B6, Iron, Potassium and Sodium.

Recipe

Ingredients

For the Yam balls
I medium bowl boiled and then mashed Yam
1 tablespoon chickpeas or gram flour
1 large onion, peeled and chopped (about 200g)
2 garlic cloves, peeled and finely chopped or crushed.
1 tbsp cornflour or breadcrumbs
1/2 tsp pepper powder.
½ tsp red chilli powder.
½ tsp salt
Saffron or turmeric powder- a pinch for color.
Oil for frying approx. 4 tbsp.

Optional : Garam masala, ground cinnamon and cardamon.

For the sauce
2 tbsp oil of your choice, preferably olive oil.
4 cloves of garlic, peeled and chopped
salt to taste.
2 Tomatoes.
1 tbsp harissa paste
2 bay leaves
1/2 tbsp sugar
Lemon zest or leaves
1 cup water
2 pears, cored and cut.
1/2 tsp pepper powder
optional – 1/2 tbsp onion paste.

Procedure :

To make Yam balls

Mix all the ingredients for Yam balls and make balls out of them. Coat them with cornflour or breadcrumbs and then fry them till golden brown. Keep them aside.

Frying yamballs

To make Sauce :

If you have Tomato puree you may use that or otherwise, blanch Pears and tomatoes with Lemon zest or leaves. Then blend them to make a paste.

Secondly, Harissa paste are available in market if you don’t have them, you can make them at home easily. I followed these easy steps and prepared it at home.

In a frying pan, add bay leaves, garlic and onion paste to oil and fry for a minute or two till the garlicky smell emerges. Next, add harissa paste and the tomato, pear Puree. Cook them all together for two minutes on medium flame and then add sugar and salt to it. Add water and bring to boil and then again cook for another five minutes on low to medium flame.

Once ready dip your Yam balls into the sauce and serve hot with anything you like. we had it with Laccha Paratha. I hope you will try and enjoy this dish with your family.

Soybean Sambusak Recipe

For tea time, we mostly like to try something different. Evening time is my favourite time presently! And since it’s raining it gets even better. Few days back I decided to make Soybean Sambusak. Soybean Sambusak is pretty easy to make. It is healthy due to the health benefits of Soybeans. They are high in proteins, excellent source of fibers, Vitamin B2, Vit. k, Omega 3 fatty acids and 8 essential amino acids. Also they are rich in Potassium, Manganese & Iron.

So this is how I made it. 

  • To make soybean sambusak, first thing you have to do is to soak 1 medium bowl of soybean for 30 mins in water.
  • Collect the Ingredients . Take a look at what you will need.

Ingredients :

4 cloves of garlic

1 teaspoon ginger

2 to 3 chillies

1 onion finely chopped

1/2 tablespoon Cashew nuts

Fresh Coriander leaves, chopped.

1/2 tsp. cumin seeds

oil

1/2 tsp. turmeric powder

1 tomato, cut into small pieces.

1/2 tsp. Pepper powder

Salt to taste

Curry leaves (optional)

1 1/2 cup of refined flour.

1/3 tsp baking powder.

  • Now lets make the dough for sambusak outer layer.

Take Refined flour in a mixing bowl. Add salt to taste, butter/oil and baking powder. Mix it all well and using water make the dough. (I took help of my mom to make the dough and I would suggest if you don’t know how to make dough, let pro handle it).

  • Move back to soaked soybeans.
  • Take them out of water and squeeze out the excess water. Mince them in blender next. Once done, keep it aside.
  • Make paste of garlic, chillies and ginger. Keep them aside.

  • Take a frying pan and on medium heat, add oil. Add cumin seeds. Once they turn brownish black, add cashew nuts and fry till golden brown. Next put chopped onions and the chilli,ginger and garlic paste. Fry for like 30 seconds and to all of it, add minced soybean and tomatoes.
  • Saute for 1 min. Add salt to taste, turmeric powder, pepper powder and coriander leaves.
  • Filling is ready.

oh and use some Refined flour and make a sticky paste with it using water to serve as edible gum. we will need it while making the outer layer of Sambusak.

  • Roll the dough straight. Keep it like neither thick nor thin. Now paste edible glue that we made earlier at the sides. Fold one of the sides like below.Add filler in between and Join the two ends, seal it properly.

  • Heat Oil in frying Fan. Fry the Sambusak till they are golden brown.
  • Serve hot with any chutney of your choice.

I hope you find it easy to make. You can bake it as well instead of frying.
