Health/Body Facts

Stomach blushes when you blush.

Well, when you blush your stomach lining goes all red (blushes) as well.

Here is what happens:

When one blushes, the sympathetic nerve causes an increase in a blood flow in our body. Enough blood through the veins turns the appearance of lining, red along with the face.

The Sympathetic nervous system is part of ANS or autonomic nervous system and its main function is the fight or flight response.

Human, you were born dreamers.

Dreams are wonderful, aren’t they? I love dreaming, do you? Edgar Allan Poe said, “All that we see or seem is but a dream within a dream.” Dream within a dream might hold true if you believed in what Vaishnava dharma followers believe too. They believe that, “World is nothing but Lord Vishnu dreaming”. Anyways, before I get confused with all that, let me tell you a wonderful fact about dreaming and humans. We start dreaming when we are in Mother’s womb. So dreaming is always there. Even before birth. Cool, right? No wonder, I like to dream, I was a born dreamer.

 Sound In Silence

Hmm, some people complain that they hear the sound even in silence. I tried once to hear the Silence, which was mercilessly killed by the tick tock of my clock. That day, I concluded, sound is constant. And to support my conclusion, I also found an interesting fact about our incredible body and that is, our hair emits sound. Actually, all hair of all mammals & amphibians do. Can we hear it? Well a team of researchers at the Howard Hughes medical institute reported that, these tones emerging from normal ears, known as Spontaneous otoacoustic emissions (SOAEs) are sometimes so loud that they may be heard at a distance. You must read the source to know more.

 Streptomycin may turn you deaf.

Hearing, how important is it for you? To me, well, just like you, it is VERY important. And what if I say, if you have been taking streptomycin for long, you might suffer from hearing loss. Yes. Streptomycin is most likely to damage 8th cranial nerve which is an auditory nerve. Streptomycin is a broad spectrum antibiotic which is used to treat bacterial infections. WHO recommends a dosage of 15mg/kg twice or thrice daily for adults and children while for older patients over 60 years, maximum dose is about 500-750 mg daily.

 Water Lost through Expiration

Did you know that we exhale 400 ml of water every day through expiration? Well, well, well, now that you know, drink at least 2.5 ml of water per day.

 Halitosis is good.

Bad breath or halitosis is seriously repulsive. But sometimes, a bad breath can be a method to diagnose diabetes. If someone around you has a rotten apple smell coming from their mouth, they might be suffering from unbalanced insulin dependent diabetes.

You can’t go for Nose-Job before you are…

Nose Job or Rhinoplasty is common among women. Recently in 2014, a 15 year old teenager was allowed to go under knife to stop bullying in the UK. Well, was it right? I do not know that, but it sure was an exception, as nose Job is only allowed after 16 years. Our Nose, fully grows by then.

At what age Brain fully develops ?

Speaking of the Nose, up above, the master of all, THE BRAIN, well it takes just 5 years to grow by 90%. Cool, right?

Egg and Saliva have one thing in common and i.e…

Egg and saliva. When I take their names together, one can assume I am talking about the saliva that comes in our mouths when delicious egg is served. But did you know, what do they have in common? They both contain an enzyme called Lysozyme, which is antibacterial in nature!

Are Freckles cancerous ?

Common among redheads, naturally occurring freckles are often confused with skin cancers. Of course they are normal and are caused by the focal increased melanin in keratinocytes.

why does Mouth go dry, post Brushing ?

Ever noticed what happens after brushing? If not, do notice next time you brush. Most of you would find dryness of mouth, post brushing. Well, it is because of Sodium Lauryl Sulfate, which most toothpastes contain (exceptions are sensodyne, GSK, aqua fresh etc.) SLS is included for their foaming action. You can guess why it is henceforth contraindicated in people with xerostomia.

Help WHO

WHO’s last year’s theme was Beat Diabetes. And this year, it is Depression: Let’s talk. WHO defines Depression as a common mental disorder, characterized by sadness, loss of interest or pleasure, feelings of guilt or low self-worth, disturbed sleep or appetite, feelings of tiredness, and poor concentration? (Source: http://www.who.int/topics/depression/en/) . The “let’s talk” campaign was launched on 10th October, 2016 and the goal of this campaign is that those who have depression should seek and get help. So let’s talk and encourage others to talk. Lets Fight Depression together.

  7. The dangerous freckles are the black ones, my Mum had a small but black freckle on her shin it was malignant melanoma luckily caught in situ, so I’ve been taught freckles are fine as long as one isn’t black when are the others are light brown. I didn’t know about lots of your other facts though they’re very interesting.

Thank you Charlotte. I am glad that it was diagnosed and treated on time. 🙂 Luckily!
I have a black freckle or mole, it is absolutely normal. I have learned that some freckles (not all) turns cancerous due to overexposure to sun and if one sees anything abnormal about the black mole/freckle like itchiness, redness or larger in size, one should immediately consult a doctor. I am glad you found other facts interesting. Thank you so much. 🙂

      1. My Mums was from one bad sunburn incident on her shins as a child, she hardly ever sits in the sun and was just unlucky. She’s a bit paranoid now and photographs them next to a ruler and checks they don’t grow each 6 months. Thanks for getting back to me 🙋🏼

I am sorry to hear that. Hmm, it can be really upsetting. Some Moles can be so horrible. I pray, they never recur. Regards to your Mom and you are welcome. Be well 🙂
