Massive hit but no Grammy- Playlist

As the name suggest, this is a playlist of few songs which were a massive hit but unfortunately could not fetch Grammy. while watching Grammy awards few months back, I was thinking about the songs which didn’t make it to the nominations or the the winning list in spite of being Phenomenal and enjoying success worldwide. so here is a list of such few songs. Enjoy!! 🙂

Vogue -Madonna

Did you know, this particular song is considered as Madonna’s one of the biggest international hits and MTV placed the video at second on their list of “100 Greatest Music Videos Ever Made” in 1999 (wikipedia).Even though this song was a hit, it missed Grammy however it did fetch 3 Mtv Video music Awards.

Opposites Attract-Paula Abdul

This song topped charts in many countries and made Paula Abdul as made her at that time only the fourth artist in music history to score four #1 hits from a single album, after Whitney Houston, George Michael, Michael Jackson and then, Mariah Carey. (wiki)

Wannabe – Spice girls

Ah! we Know this song so well, don’t we? This was a phenomenal hit but sadly didn’t get any Grammy. Wannabe was a #1 hit in 37 countries. The Spice Girls have sold over 80 million records worldwide, making them the best-selling female group of all time, one of the best-selling pop groups of all time. (Reference: wikipedia) But seems like they could not impress the Grammys.

Escape- Enrique Iglesias

Escape is the biggest commercially successful hit by Enrique till to this date. well however Bailamos was a hit as well, none of these songs could win the Grammy award.  Enrique has won one Grammy for best latin pop album in 1997. (Reference: wiki)

See you again – Wiz Khalifa ft Charlie Puth

See you again was Nominated for Grammys although it didn’t win but was a global commercial success and #1 hit in many countries.

Fancy – Iggy Azalea ft Charli xcx

Fancy was a Number one hit for seven consecutive weeks on billboards and was also nominated for record of the year at Grammy but didn’t win. It is one of the best selling singles worldwide. (Reference: wiki)

Blank space – Taylor Swift

It received three Grammy Nominations but no Grammy. This song was a massive hit undoubtedly.

Blurred lines- Robin Thicke ft Pharrell williams

Blurred Lines” was an immense success worldwide, peaking at number one in at least 25 countries and becoming the number one song of 2013 in several of them. (wikipedia). It was nominated for two Grammy awards but got none.

Tik Tok- Kesha

Now who doesn’t know this Autotuned but best Party song with which Kesha rose to fame. so many people were so fond of this song that almost everyone had it as their ringtone. Tik Tok” was certified 5× platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) and has sold over six million copies in the United States. The song was the best-selling single worldwide in 2010 and  The song was listed 56th on the Billboard Hot 100 Songs of All-time. (wikipedia)

California gurls – Katy Perry

It received a Grammy nomination and was ranked song number one in Billboard’s 30 summer songs of all time.

Call me maybe – Carly Rae Jepsen

With worldwide sales, quoted in one source in July 2015 as over 18 million copies, it became the best selling single of the century by a female artist.”Call Me Maybe” was the best-selling digital single of 2012, and is the best-selling digital single of all time. It was nominated for two Grammys. (source: wikipedia)

 

Hopefully more in Part 2. soon. I think these songs and artists won hearts of millions through their music and that is in itself the biggest reward, isn’t it friends? who cares if they won Grammys or not, they will be our favourites forever. Keep smiling  🙂

  1. Hey, you selected a lot of really good songs. many of them are on my cell phone. What you say is true. A lot of great songs don’t get nominated. LSame thing happens in some years where great movies aren’t nominated for an Oscar. I hope you are well. Missed your posts. Have a great evening. Be well.

    Songs riding on an insane pop culture wave. Smells Like Teen Spirit should have been listed on this one, but I’m glad it isn’t. Would have been harsh on the other “songs”
